Terminator Sequel: An Intriguing Teaser

Turbulent Terminator Times

Here at GoneFullGeek we are avid Terminator fanatics. Each of us having grown-up repeatedly watching both The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day until this very day.

But, since James Cameron departed from the Terminator franchise after T2, the franchise – shall we say – has been turbulent.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was responsible for my first experience of leaving the cinema feeling truly robbed of my childhood. Ridiculous, near slap-stick comedy, poor acting, non-existent writing and a bloody-awful score; which was pathetic in comparison to Brad Fiedel‘s epic work on the first two instalments.

Terminator: Salvation was a substantial improvement, with a strong cast – although disappointingly missing Schwarzenegger, a grittier aesthetic, and set within the earlier years of the Future War. Yet, it still lacked the thorough, well-thought-out story, tension and emotional depth that Cameron had brought twice before.

Terminator: Genisys is the most recent entry in the franchise. I had high-hopes for this film. The cast looked to be well-chosen – with the exception of Jai Courtney, who was so obviously mis-cast as soon as his name and the words Kyle Reese were mentioned in the same sentence.

Yet, with a confusing plot, pre-release marketing material that gave away the big twist, and although it was nice to – sort-of – return to the first two movies, what Genisys actually did with the opportunity was disappointing.

It has been 26 years since audiences last had a perfect Terminator movie, hopefully with James Cameron back in creative control; we will finally get a sequel worthy of the Terminator title. And now…

“Something Big is Coming”

A couple of hours ago, the Terminator production company; SkyDance, tweeted something intriguing, yet irritatingly vague.

The tweet simply shows a picture of James Cameron, with the below quote (by the director himself)…

“It made sense for me to see if there was a way to bring [Terminator] into this century and to relevance”

… followed by the intriguing statement of: Something big is coming. #Terminator

Now, we know that Executive Producer James Cameron, Director Tim Miller and main star Arnold Schwarzenegger are referring to the sixth instalment as the “Terminator sequel”, instead of “Terminator 6” – which reinforces the fact that this next movie; is a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and will ignore T3, Salvation and Genisys.

With the recent – and brilliant – announcement that Linda Hamilton is returning for the sequel as Sarah Connor, we are left wondering what else could be next.

Nextinator?

So, what do you think the “big” announcement will be?

Are you hopeful for Arnie to be a villain once again?

Will more previous T1/T2 cast members be returning, such as; Robert Patrick, Michael Biehn, Edward Furlong, or even Earl Boen?

Could the brilliant, original composer; Brad Fiedel, be returning to score the movie?

Oh, and be honest, who else is hoping for another cameo from original The Terminator/Terminator 2 co-writer; William Wisher?

Or, will it simply be a title reveal? Only time will tell.
