T2: Terminator 2: Judgment Day – Iconic Teaser Trailer

T2: The Perfect Teaser

Now this is how a teaser trailer should be done. Terminator 2 (T2) still holds the crown for best teaser ever made.

No footage from the final film is shown, no hint at the plot or who will star in the film (other than Schwarzenegger, of course).

All audiences were shown, was a teaser directed by James Cameron. Featuring the terrifying T-800 Endoskeleton and awesome ‘assembly’ equipment by the late, great Stan Winston, plus a nude Arnold Schwarzenegger surround by steam.

Complimenting the machinery sounds to absolute perfection, is Brad Fiedel‘s iconic score, which is topped off in the final frame – as Arnie opens his eyes to the audience – with his iconic line from the first film…

“I’ll be back!”

Back in 1990/91, this will have been the first hint that people will have seen in movie theatres James Cameron‘s sci-fi sequel masterpiece; Terminator 2.

Terminator: Assembled

Cast your mind back to when you first watched the original 1984 classic; The Terminator.

The non-stop tension, the – what appeared to be – impossible task of putting an end to this killing-machine. Think of all the pain and heartache both Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese suffered through to defeat it. And yet, it took Skynet less than 60 seconds to assemble and “flesh-out” another T-800; Model 101. Wow, scary…

Terminator 2: Judgment Day was the first film in movie history to cost over $100 million to make ($102 million to be exact).

To put the cost in perspective, the first film; The Terminator, had a small budget of $6.4 million, and the teaser trailer you just watched is rumoured to have cost between $150,000-$200,000.

When I watch T2 now, 26 years later, the effects still stand up against films of today. Which we can both agree is an impressive feat.

I’ve always been an Arnie fan ever since I can remember. And, Terminator 2 sits within my top 3 Arnie movies.

But, depending on my mood; it does fluctuate between The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and True Lies – all of which are Schwarzenegger/Cameron collaborations.

Do you love Terminator 2 as much as I do? What is your favourite Arnie film?
