Halloween: Jamie Lee Curtis Returns…

Trick, or Treat?
Well, today’s news caught me off-guard; as Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed via Twitter that she would in-fact be returning to Haddonfield one last time for Halloween.
Yes, I’d heard that they were thinking of resurrecting the Halloween franchise once more, with Danny McBride‘s involvement. Which, I’ll be honest, didn’t excite me at all.
After the awful Rob Zombie incarnations, and the tragic stumble and self-impalement that was Halloween: Resurrection, I wanted Michael Myers left dead and buried.
But, as you can see from Jamie‘s tweet below, this isn’t a trick. Hopefully seeing her return to the franchise that started her film career will be the treat we’ve all been waiting for.

That image alone, with Jamie back as Laurie Strode, and Michael Myers lurking in the background gives me shivers of excitement.
The Night He Came Home…
Jamie Lee Curtis has played Laurie Strode in four movies from the original series; Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween: H20 and Halloween: Resurrection. The last of which lead to her character’s demise at the hands of Michael Myers – which was without a doubt; a middle-finger to the fans.
Thankfully, Danny McBride previously confirmed that this next instalment would follow the events of the 2nd film, ignoring both H20 and Resurrection. I suppose we could consider them ‘bad dreams’, that said, I didn’t mind H20.
Still, nothing will compare to the classic John Carpenter original; Halloween.
Carving a fresh and bloody path from the events of the first two films, this next chapter will act as both sequel and reboot.
Although when done right; I am all for belated sequels, remakes and reboots, Hollywood is currently going through an old-school sequel frenzy. Most recent examples of which are Star Wars, Blade Runner and the upcoming Terminator sequel.
Halloween in Haddonfield
Given that Jamie Lee Curtis has returned, and that the story will follow the events of the 1978 original, and it’s 1981 sequel, I’m hoping for a return to form. Hopefully this next film will have a few nods to the originals, and callbacks to scarier times.
As a major fan of John Carpenter‘s terrifying original, McBride said:
“There’s a simplicity and an efficiency to that first one that I think allows the movies just to be scary as hell.”
adding that this next film will:
“…continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way.”
Picking up the knife four decades later; and coming from the minds of David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, the new instalment of the Halloween horror franchise will come home to cinemas on October 19th, 2018.
