Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

Most Post-Apocalyptic games have a very similar aesthetic, which is understandable, and not a bad thing. But when I played Horizon: Zero Dawn, it had something more than a dreary and dismal setting. It was beautiful. Everything from the incredible landscapes and sweet sunrises, all the way to the subtle facial animation and fabric texture. The Frozen Wilds looks to be just as good.

After completing the main game, I still had a few side quests to complete and a few Corrupted Zones left to clear out. But after those were done and dusted, I still wanted more.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

“Earth is Ours No More”

During the course of the main game, we hear about the Banuk tribal lands that lay beyond the northern mountains, and now we get to visit them ourselves. The Frozen Wilds is the first (but hopefully not the last) DLC for Horizon Zero Dawn. In The Frozen Wilds, we’ll be exploring a beautiful, yet unforgiving new land containing a compelling mystery for Aloy to solve. We’ll also be facing new Machines, new storylines and new characters.

For me, the most exciting thing about the DLC has to be facing new Machines. I can’t help but wonder what kind of Machines we’ll be able to Override and control. One thing I’d love to be able to do, is learn to ride the insanely destructive Thunderjaw, or perhaps something more agile, like the Stalker. Or maybe, just maybe we’ll take to the skies on the back of something like the massive Stormbird.

I wonder if we’ll uncover what Sylens is up to, or if something else is wrong with GAIA.

The official synopsis for The Frozen Wilds is:

“Beyond the northern mountains, the borderlands of the Banuk tribe challenge all who dare enter to survive the extremes. But now this frozen wilderness harbours a new threat, and for Aloy, a new mystery – one she’s determined to solve.”

If that’s not enough to get you excited, then check out these official screenshots and trailer below:

If the images aren’t doing it for you, maybe the trailer will.
