Let the Past Die…
As you already know, I have little confidence in the upcoming Han Solo prequel story. For me, the past of the legendary smuggler should remain shrouded in mystery, with fan speculation being the only thing that fuels Han‘s past.
Still, with Disney buying Lucasfilm back in 2012, we all knew that change was inevitable.
Now, I’m not adverse to change. I for one, believe that allowing fresh talent near the Star Wars universe is a good thing – as George Lucas was far too close to it to see the full potential the franchise has.
I absolutely loved J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens, and found Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One prequel story to be bold, brilliant and emotionally engaging.
Elements of Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi were the best yet; in the Star Wars saga, but this latest entry also had some of the worst elements too – with one scene featuring Leia being almost as bad as “nuking the fridge” in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The Last Jedi has divided fans, with some going as far as to request the film be removed from canon and remade.
But there is one film and character that should be steered clear of, when it comes to exploring the past. Solo: A Star Wars Story is a dangerous film. Not only can nobody replace the brilliant Harrison Ford, but there are other reasons as to why “I have a bad feeling about this” movie.
A New Hope
As the civilians of Bespin will tell you, every cloud has a silver lining…
In an interview with Variety, legendary composer John Williams – who has composed the scores for all eight entries in the Skywalker saga so far – has confirmed he will write the main theme for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Although he is writing the main theme, he will not be composing the score itself. That honour sits with another great composer, John Powell. Powell is no stranger to creating great soundtracks for movies, with Face/Off, The Bourne Ultimatum and both of the How to Train Your Dragon movies on his resume.
John Powell has assured fans that he will make the score for Solo: A Star Wars Story his own, whilst ensuring he stays loyal to what John Williams has previously established, as well as what Michael Giacchino did with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Regarding Powell scoring the film, John Williams also stated:
“His assignment is something I’m very happy about. What I will do is offer this to John, and to Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy. … John [Powell] will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.”
